Dwyer Foundation Presentation
Founded by the Dwyer family, relatively new organization. Focus is on providing initial training so people can begin a career in healthcare but also provide them with stackable credentials. Question is how to support folks in both being trained but also overcome barriers to economic success. Three mission components: 1 improve the lives of people who lack opportunity, 2 plug holes in the healthcare system, 3 improve the lives of seniors
Provide comprehensive support and wrap around services to trainees, also provide job placement services and free ongoing healthcare training.
Wrap around services include transportation assistance, housing assistance, childcare
Make sure that jobs are immediately available upon completing training
Don’t want to replicate services that are already in the community–want to be able to fill in the hole in established services–childcare? Housing? Nutrition issues?
Have had some discussions with Bon Secours Community Works–would like to connect around employment/employment partners
Will also connect with UMMC
Who can we talk to about dealing with the childcare issue? Who are the funders who should be involved? Committee discussed ways to get decision makers and folks in city government involved, as well as the need for childcare
Elizabeth will connect Dwyer Foundation with the MD Family Network. Other options for partners are the Baltimore Childcare Resource Center and the Baltimore Family Alliance
If anyone is interested in leading a childcare subcommittee that’s something that the Roundtable can coordinate
