Introductions
The meeting was anchored by the committee chair Laura. This was followed by participants introductions
Laura asked if the May minutes were good to be approved.
Rason made some observations and comments regarding the May minutes and he also made a suggestion for the meetings to be recorded. Laura mentioned that she will look into it to see what can or cannot be done with regards to his suggestions.
Edith moved the motion to approve the minutes.
Valerie seconded the motion to approve the minutes.
Guest Speaker: Jay Nwachu, Innovation Works
Laura the committee chair introduced the guest speaker Jay Nwachu of Innovation Works/Ignite Capital. He made presentations of his organization and what they do. His presentation was followed by questions and answers. Participants asked questions and the guest speaker responded to the questions asked. Guest speaker committed to having representation by a staff member from his organization at this committee meeting moving forward.
Brainstorming ways to rebuild trust between SWP and minority business/property owners – Updates
Carrie provided an update on the flier.
Rason made comments and gave his own views with regards to the flier.
Scott made comments and provided his own views with regards to the flier.
Nicole made comments and provided his own views with regards to the flier.
Carrie provided an update on the policy memorandum draft on the non-emergency complaints against businesses and property owners.
Rason made comments on the policy and provided his own views with regards to the policy. To further explain his views and comments he asked if anyone has seen the Mainstreet Application.
Laura responded and made comments on the policy.
This was followed by back and forth arguments concerning the flier and the policy by various participants.
Nicole made comments on the policy regarding its enforcement.
Old Business
- Pigtown Mainstreet Updates – Meghan
- We will be starting “Get Down to Pigtown” a monthly event that will be starting in late August or early September. It will be a Saturday with pop ups, activities and specials at businesses. The details are still being worked out with our Promotion Committee and businesses.
- Festival is Oct. 8th, please become or recommend vendors. Sign up is on our website.
- Our focus right now is planning for the worst due to a recession but hoping for the best and how we change programming to support businesses and our growing home ownership rates.
- West Baltimore Street Updates – Curtis
Curtis provided updates on sold properties on West Baltimore Street.
Curtis also provided updates on VBN, public safety grants, and parking meters installed in place on West Baltimore Street.
- Mainstreet update – Curtis
Curtis provided updates on the Clean and Green program attracting new membership.
He also provided updates on the Bon Secours community works clean and green team.
Nicole made comments on the Bon Secours community works clean and green team – on them getting grants to do this job and businesses being asked to contribute?
Rason made comments that his members (CPBO) are not aware of the clean and green team doing the activities that Curtis was talking about.
- Capital Projects update – Carrie
Carrie provided updates on Capital Projects – No big capital projects as all funding has been allocated.
Carrie provided an update on the project maps being added to the SWP website.
Rason suggested and requested financial information disclosure to also be included on the project map on the SWP website.
Nicole suggested and requested project timeline information disclosure to also be included on the project map on the SWP website.
