UMB Community Engagement Center Needs Assessment Survey

Brian shared questions for the UMB Community Engagement Center needs assessment survey. Want the Roundtable’s feedback to ensure that the questions are sensitive, effective, and appropriate.

Suggestion to add options for folks to select multiple answers per question. Suggestion to ask question about the type of jobs/training that people might be interested in. Other possible topics could be whether people were victims of wage theft, unfair dismissal, job discrimination, issues with the onboarding systems after hire. Also need for questions about digital equity, experience with the justice system, needs/barriers that people have. Roundtable discussed rewordings of questions to capture more information (more open ended vs selecting from options). Suggestion to have age ranges rather than birthdates.

All questions are optional, especially the demographic questions

Digital Equity Follow Up Discussion

Roundtable discussed what the goals, needs, and outcomes would be for a shared digital equity project. Different organizations have different digital training services available to participants and different needs–especially depending on whether or not trainings are virtual and the demands of a field. Provide both professional training (to support their needs in their fields) and day to day training

Lisa would love to have regular basic digital literacy training available, staff support for computer lap. There is a need for support for people in the training programs and at home, and ensuring that there is technology available to support folks’ needs. Need for funding for staff for support/training, computer lab staffing, technology and internet access. Will add Byte Back and NPower to agenda–looking for a community IT service provider

Next meeting folks should start thinking about specific needs. Will be a need for evening and off hours training

Goals for 2024

Not lose site in Annapolis–focus on the policy work. Lisa can provide training on policy work, how to testify etc. League of Women voters also has some advocacy training.
