7:10-7:25pm: Community Updates (2 minutes each)

  1. Barre Circle- no update
  2. Franklin Square- Funding and contractor in place for the Comfort Station; Lifebridge has started demo on the old Bon Secours Hospital so there is fencing around the site for the next two weeks; bringing back a congestive heart failure clinic that they used to have in place
  3. Hollins Roundhouse- Planning for SOWEBO May 29th 12pm-8pm, if you know vendors, please share the website www.sowebofest.org/be-a-vendor ; Track and Baseball at Carroll Park and Chess at Hollins Market
  4. Mount Clare- Spring clean up April 30th 
  5. Pigtown- Wellfest at Carroll Park 11am to 4pm this Saturday (organized by Pigtown Climbs promoting movement and wellness) and Cyclovia is also happening at the same time and same place; Old Major is back open and doing lots of fun community events including yoga on Wednesday’s and follow them on social media to learn more
  6. Poppleton – Juneteenth festival being planned at Greater Model Park; working with the deputy mayor to work with the city on the new revised Poppleton Plan; Sarah Ann street houses have been added to the CHAP historical district 
  7. Union Square- April 24th 4pm to 7pm in Union Square Park Sunday Sounds returns (blues, Christopher Phoenix James and George Kleb); Yard Sale, May 14th Register at yardsale@unionsquareassociation.org to sell stuff it is $10 to register for a table to sell your stuff; electric car charging stations are going; BGE decided to lift the barriers on Lombard/Stricker without any notice and now a number of accidents have occurred; 7pm April 20th traffic meeting at Chuck Callahan’s house sponsored by BUILD

7:25-7:40pm: Program Committee Updates (2 minutes each)

  1. Commercial- RFP for the head house and call for Vendors – Kristen Mitchell will be presenting 
  2. Education- Start solicitation for donations to “Lou’s Packet” which is a fund to support local public schools in our area; Playground will be improved at Charles Carroll Barrister; Petition has been submitted to State MSDE from parents to appeal the closure of Steuart Hill Academic Academy
  3. Historic Preservation- Jane from St Luke’s came and gave presentation on St. Luke’s Church history; Energy Justice Network “deconstruction bill” will be introduced by Odette Ramos; From CHAP hearing last week, 168 letters of support were received on behalf of the Sarah Ann Street houses and CHAP voted to “revisit the historic district map in Poppleton”; May 9th at 6pm is their next meeting
  4. Housing- Fight Blight Bmore has a new app via google play and the app that can track blight in neighborhoods and can be used in a lot of creative ways; April 20th Rebuilding Together is having a fundraiser 3pm to 7pm at Zella’s – so portion of sales will go to RT. Go eat pizza for a good cause!
  5. Public Safety- Camera project for W Baltimore Street is underway, Thomas is the lead; Bike Rodeo was a big success
  6. Vibrant Streets- Neighborhood grant applications due June 1st; Grant secured to carry out many of our priorities; the bike ride activity on the weekends has been a success; 8am this Sunday April 24th, Theme is “destinations” riding by train stations through out west/southwest Baltimore- been getting a ton a positive attention; Cycle track has been added to Carroll Park
  7. Workforce- The bill that we advocated for was passed “paid family medical leave” is now law; the expungement bill didn’t pass but will try again next year; Mt Clare commission will be getting money to research the lives of the enslaved folks from Carroll Mansion and money coming from the state for the Poppleton Rec

 

7:40-7:50pm: Standing Committee Updates (10 minutes)

  • Governance
    • Special meeting will be held April 27th to look at the “Community Majority” issue that came up last meeting, 4 options were suggested and Chuck will circulate ahead of time; Discussion around Common Health Action and whether they should be the group that provides additional coaching- additional discussion will need to be had; Chuck also wants us to consider which type of organization we want to be moving forward because that should guide future conversations around the bylaws/governance etc. Do we want to be more Community development (focusing on capital improvements in our neighborhoods or community organizing/issue focused?)

 

7:50-8:00pm: Anchor Updates (2 minutes each)

  1. B&O Railroad Museum- Day out with Thomas coming in May (big outdoor event) Day Out With Thomas™ | B&O Railroad Museum (borail.org) ; BSO is going to be doing a pop-up April 26th in the evening in the Roundhouse; First cohort of the new workforce development program begin on Monday (on their campus for 6 months for the Earn while you Learn program in partnership with CCBC, preference for West Baltimore residents)
  2. Bon Secours Community Works
  3. University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB); UMB Spring Festival and Proton Treatment Center Open House and wellness fair May 7th 11am to 2pm; Free community dinner catered by Neopol Smokery 530pm to 630pm wednesday 4/20, pick up flyers for the spring festival then when you stop by for dinner!
  4. UMB BioPark- Martin Luther King and W Baltimore Street Charette (planning discussion for the intersection public safety) – May 14th Saturday 10am to 12pm at the Community Engagement Center; Parking Lot issue brought up by Dotie
  5. UM Medical Center
  6. Wexford Science & Technology- Because of covid, they have had less of a demand for parking, so they haven’t opened the new parking lot because the garage has been able to meet their parking needs for now- Greg will work with Dotie/Jane Shaab and Tyrone to look at a potential solution for seniors to park in the lot who want to attend CEC programming.

    • 2020 audit in May; 2020 audit will be given to the board, take two weeks, look at it, and get feedback to Donnell asap.

8:15-8:45pm: Executive Director’s Report

  • Semi-Annual Volunteer Sign-Up; Will use this year’s SOWEBO festival as the “semi-annual” update for the community; Sunday May 29th, we NEED VOLUNTEERS so let Tony know if you can give a few hours, Dotie asked about interns, could they help volunteer

 

  • BRNI/CORE Rankings & Corporate Resolution
    • Discussion around Poppleton Rec “fields” and Sonia/Howard/JR/and staff around the Poppleton Rec MOU- follow up meeting will need to be schedule to get folks on the same page
    • Scott makes a motion to pass the resolution to support of the BRNI/CORE Corporate Resolution; Richard seconded Scott’s motion; motion passes unanimously; PLEASE get your ranking back to Tony in the next 2 weeks

8:45-9:00pm: Open Forum

  • Jane offered the Biopark to hold in person meetings and will work with team to try for a hybrid option of in person and virtual
  • Move Well and Cyclovia, clean up in Carroll Park this weekend before the two fun events, let Scott Kashnow know if you can help
