Khandra opened the meeting and all the guests introduced themselves.

  • Approval of Minutes

 

The Board reviewed the October 2018 minutes and offered corrections:

  • Live where you work – should be capitalized

Phyllis motioned to approve the minutes. Jane second, All approved. The motion passed.

 

 

  • B&O Museum Update on First Mile Stable Project – Kris Hoellen

 

– Construction has begun

-There is construction equipment on site

-They have started grubbing and site work

-Please let her know if we hear any feedback from the neighborhood – negative or positive.

Michael – The City is putting funds into the 2020 Capital Budget for the improvements to Stricker and Carey Streets.

 

Ashley – Maybe we can get a tour when it is finished.

Should be complete by the end of summer

 

 

  • Giving Tuesday – Curtis

 

Giving Tuesday is coming up soon. Everyone should post to Social Media and try and help the fundraising campaign – They have a goal of $5K.

 

Much discussion ensued (regarding who and how to hold fundraisers and how to decide what to spend the proceeds on) the outcome of which is that the fundraising committee needs to meet soon to start hammering out some recommendations for the board to consider. Jane and Scott committed to doing this.

      5. 2nd Meeting of the task force created to address the increase in opioid use and pan-handing in the area and the effects on the neighborhood is Wednesday at 4
    • Dan M. – Hollins Roundhouse held elections and he was elected the president of the board and will remain the rep for SWP for one month. They will vote on the rep for the new year at their next meeting.
    • Scott – The preservation committee requests permission to be able to fundraise for the sign project – specifically for the Franklin Square sign which we were awarded $2000 but need to still raise $900 in order to install. We would like to set up a small fundraiser at the Union Square Cookie Tour. No motion is needed, at this time, to do the fundraising as long as we are not approaching foundations.
      1. Lou requested that we be consistent with the guidelines for the committees to fundraise on their own. He brought a proposal several months ago and was stonewalled.
      2. The fundraising committee was tasked with creating a first draft of guidelines.
    • Bill – update on election of Barre Circle
    • Diana – Tenant and Landlord workshop presented by St Ambrose will be at Southwest Baltimore Charter School.
      1. They are also working on an aging in place workshop from 11-1 on 1/16
      2. Civic Works holds a resource fair for seniors in the middle of March
    • Lou – Thursday Gallery Church Sowebo will be giving out Thanksgiving Meals
      1. Education Committee – Reiterated that there should be equity between the committees when it comes to fundraising
    • Khandra (with the help of Bif) Announced the Union Square Cookie Tour

 

 

  • Executive Director’s Report – Michael

 

    • Goldseker Community Tour
      1. Meeting next week and need a headcount 
    • Community Catalyst Operating Grant – to support the operations of the SWP up to $100K
      1. Motion to apply by George, 2nd by Chuck –All in favor. The motion passes
    • Hollins Market 
      1. The executive committee met with the Leadership of the Public Markets – we are waiting for the Public Markets Corporation to decide how they would like to proceed. 
      2. Scott – Motion to send a letter – reminding the public markets corp. that we would like Hollins Market redevelopment to be a transformative project and include all the details that the commercial committee stated were important to the project and request that it be done soon. Troy 2nd – All in favor. The motion passes.
