UMMC Pharm Tech Training Program

UMMC has an upcoming Pharm Tech training program. The training has been redesigned so that it focuses on recruiting community members so they can gain 21st Century skills in healthcare and be connected with job opportunities at UMMC.

Pharm Tech training program is an established program (about 6 years), has had two classes, was disrupted by covid. Kim Barnett shared a presentation on the program. Usually has been an internal program, this is the first training program focused on community members. Will provide paid on the job training, preparation to be nationally certified, online instruction, class stimulations.

Requirements: full time, 18 years or older, take online reading or math assessment (TABE), reliable transportation, access to computer and the internet, must have a background check and drug test. Board of Pharmacy background check is extremely extensive and can be hard to pass.

There will be 6 total students–4 external, 2 internal

400 hours total. Students will be paid for 40 hours a week and will have experience with inpatient and outpatient rotations

For more information contact Kim at kbarnett@umm.edu

Lisa would like to reach out to partners who do free (not paid) pharm tech training–Goodwill and Caroline Center–with the folks who don’t get into the training program.

UMMC also has other training programs–PCT started this week, upcoming healthcare fundamentals training program (leads to entry level clerical positions), surg tech information session will be upcoming

Paul’s Place Property Management Training

Institute of Real Estate Management has a Restart Program (IREM), free property management training program. Six week training program followed by a six week paid internship ($15/hr). Hope is that after the 12 week training program property management partners will offer full time work.

Looking to target between 8 and 12 students.

Completely funded by IREM chapter.

Participants need a diploma or GED, 18 years of age or over, be bondable, people skills/common sense, interest in working with the public, drug testing will probably be required by property management firms. Are asking for folks to have at least the first dose of the covid vaccine as the class will be held on site at Paul’s Place.

To apply go through the link on the flyer, Danielle and help with the application process.

Program will start May 16th. Will be accepting applications until April 1st. Training will be 9-5 as the internship will be 9-5. Do have some funding to offer some transportation assistance.
