Olivia asked what are barriers to serv safe certificate. Ellen answered that they aren’t super clear on what support is needed at this time. Test anxiety plays a huge factor. The Roundtable discussed their data collection methods, as well as potential solutions for challenges identified by the data.
- Power 52 Energy Institute: do 16 week training on solar and renewable energy. Based in Colombia and recruit statewide. Currently recruiting for 20th cohort. Both online and in person components. Trainees receive an NCCR credential which opens a number of doors in the renewable energy field. Can also receive an internationally recognized credential. Offer a stipend as well as wraparound services. Also offer homeownership assistance and health care assistance through partnerships with other organizations. Pay scale ranged from $17-$27 an hour (higher levels are with experience). Roundtable discussed the types of projects that trainees work on, as well as the overall program structure. Trainees have hands on training–are paid a per-diem for work out of state–and focus is on preparing them for commercial work–if they are experienced in commercial they can do residential or start their own business. Bon Secours community works provides wrap around services for families in 21223, 21230, and 21202. There will also be an information session for folks interested in starting a home childcare business.
UMMC will be hosting a literacy luncheon on Wednesday 24th at the Midtown Tower.
