Southwest Works is the Southwest Partnership’s workforce development program: connecting area residents to quality local jobs. Improving access to employment opportunities--especially at area anchor institutions who offer stable employment, benefits, and advancement opportunities--is a major goal of the Vision Plan. Southwest Works meets community members where they are by providing individualized assessment and employment support and referrals to wrap around services and training opportunities. The anchor referral program provides residents in zip codes 21201, 21223, 21230, 21215, 21216, 21217 and Baltimore City residents in 21229 who have applied to positions at participating anchor institutions, who are qualified for the positions, and who have successfully completed a screening and practice interview with a boost in their application. Our participating anchor institutions are:
- The University of Maryland Baltimore
- The University of Maryland Medical Center
- University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc
- Ascension St Agnes
As a part of the anchor referral program we also hold recruitment events: where interested candidates can meet, virtually or in person, with recruiters for a range of positions at our anchor partners including clerical, food service, and security. Many applicants are offered secondary interviews on the spot and can be hired shortly after.
