My name is Julie, I’m the new social work intern for the Southwest Partnership and a current SW Baltimore resident. I was born and raised in Silver Spring, MD. I became familiar with Baltimore when my little brother moved here to attend the University of Baltimore (UB) who currently lives in Reservoir Hill. After attending community college, I transferred to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) where I received my bachelor’s in Social Work in 2015. I then decided to pursue my master’s degree at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work located in downtown Baltimore.
During my first year at UMD I made a friend who was living in Hollins Roundhouse who asked if I would like to move in with her for the upcoming school year. Due to the rent being affordable and the manageable commute, I decided to make the move.
What attracted me to my new home was its structure and how it was different and more unique than anywhere I had lived before. I felt comfortable with my surroundings and my friends always talk about how great their experience in the SWP community has been thus far. It also helps that many local businesses are within walking distance such as Zella’s Pizzeria, Mi Ranchitos and Hollins Market. It’s also great that I am very close to my school.
Here in Hollins Roundhouse I believe that every neighbor in the community are great people who all have the same goal: to be happy and to live their lives as best as they can. We all face our own set of challenges but I am hopeful that as I continue my time interning at the SWP and living in the area, I learn and experience more of what this great neighborhood has to offer.
