The Friends of Carroll Park, Chesapeake Center for Youth Development, the Southwest Partnership and community members in the Spring of 2017 want to bring youth baseball back to Carroll Park. Outreach to neighboring schools has already begun and during the month of September, 90 minute baseball clinics were held across the community to gauge the interest and teach baseball skills.

Baseball is a great game for children. It’s a great way to get exercise, teach teamwork and develop good hand-eye coordination. Baseball players also develop quick thinking and good reaction skills and joining a team sport is a great way to make new friends. The vision of the Carroll Park Youth Baseball League is to have parents, teachers, volunteers and local businesses all supporting 6-8 teams of energetic and excited kids. Bringing back youth baseball in Carroll Park is an exciting venture and can lead to bringing community awareness to parents to learn about their communities through local competition and surrounding local parks.

Carroll Park Youth Baseball League aims to promote mentorship. Mentoring is one of our main objectives and a great team coach not only motivates a team, but also is acts as a great role model for our youth. The league will also provide an opportunity for parents to bond with their children by helping with practice, attend games, or by just talking to them and getting them interested about the game. Lastly, the discipline and life skills learned while playing in a youth league will help kids develop good work ethic, leadership skills, cultural exposure and help kids learn how to manage difficult situations. Winning and losing also teach kids fundamentals of pride and humility.

So let’s bring back baseball!
