  2. Franklin Square – August 21st Kirby Lane Park 11am to 3pm Ms Edith will share a flyer- it is the 1800 block W Saratoga Street—Jane B commented that it looks amazing!

  5. Pigtown
    1. Groundwork Kitchen opened today for carryout and delivery; open 7am-3pm https://www.groundworkkitchen.com/
    2. SBGP announced $6 million in south baltimore area parks today; including Carroll Park
    3. $2 million going to fix up and open the rec center
    4. Pigtown Festival will be taking place this year – 9/25

7:25-7:40pm: Committee Updates

  1. Commercial – July 29th ABC’s of Local Investing (zoom) Entrepreneurship Conference August 21st contact Laura Dykes for more info
  2. Education- Fundraising Initiative (still in discussion) Discussing a Youth Internship – Coordinators are working on a number of projects, including the pool at VTTMA looking to hire lifeguards and other staff; long term UMB will be teaching lifeguarding for the students at VTTMA to gain this skill and be employed as lifeguards at the pool; There will be afterschool programming at Charles Carroll and Stuart Hill AA; James McHenry is getting a new playground through Kaboom- volunteer days on August 11th and 13th (on the Hollins Roundhouse website has a link to sign up) https://www.volunteermd.org/need/detail/?need_id=604052

Liberty asked about the community school updates- who manages the CSC’s? ; Abigail explained that SWP hires some of the community school coordinators and coordinates among all of them in the schools in the 7 neighborhoods

  1. Historic Preservation- NO update because all of the items they were discussing were in Poppleton, and given what the Board decided last Board meeting, he doesn’t have anything to report

**larger Poppleton discussion was brought up in the middle of committee reports– – Fixing the Poppleton situation is of the utmost importance**

  1. Housing- Pass this month
  2. Public Safety- Teen on Teen violence uptick, have to find a way to think about the Poppleton Rec Center and other ways to get out kids safe place to be and hang out; Thomas added that the gates are up on Stockton; Sharina doesn’t feel safe in her neighborhood in Poe Homes; August 1st– Town Hall on the violence in Poppleton;
  3. Vibrant Streets- Sub committee continues to be very active- biking and signs committee, public art subcommittee; neighborhood grants available in the fall- South Baltimore Gateway Partnership has given a grant for the lighting on the Carey Street bridge; Committee is looking into 311 requests that have been idle or closed but the work hasn’t been done; Donnell and Ms Wanda Elise will work together on the outstanding Poppleton requests
  1. Workforce- Training for Advocacy this fall led by Out For Justice and JOTF; Kurt Sommer will be providing an update at the September Meeting; current grantees have until next week if they need an extension or change to their proposal

12 interviews to be scheduled with the DEI trainers- stay tuned, not sure who they will be contacting just yet- gave them about 20 names and they will pick 12 and go from there

  • Sonia Eaddy- Poppleton met and decided to have a new rep attend the SWP rep from Poppleton; July 29th Poppleton is having a town hall/public meeting- Morningstar Baptist Church 630pm 1063 W Fayette
  • JR -Juice Lab is open every day in August 40 S Carrollton (Cold press juices, smoothies, etc)
  • Mt Clare: Traci Atkins Park, Aug 3rd National Night Out 4:30 – 7 pm Food- Fun – Fellowship
  • August 8th Community Days 10am to 4pm- FREE Museum (Christmas in July is this week, ice cream and snowballs etc) Street Art Caboose in the Roundhouse- so please come see it
  • Mulberry’s has karaoke on Fridays from 7-10 pm
  • Wanda- Hollins Market Parking meters- can we get some free parking for people just running in?
