Childcare Training

Baltimore Childcare Resource Center: working with the SWP on a child care training program–need help getting the word out to as many people as possible. 

 

Growing Opportunities for Family Childcare–direct response to the decline in family childcare businesses (exacerbated by the pandemic). The program will put more resources into the hands of people in order to build family childcare provider businesses. 

 

Will provide all of the required trainings (free), provide one on one assistance with the office of childcare to make the licensing process easier, also providing free basic business training. Will stay in a coaching and mentoring capacity to build their business and professional development skills.

 

Have in person information session August 4th–would like to get the word out so as many people as possible can attend

 

JOTF will share in their weekly newsletter, have done outreach to MOED

JOTF

JOTF be restarting a workforce development training program–will be launching a new construction training program. Better You Construction training. Will train a cohort starting in September. Will be another pre-apprenticeship training. Will consist of 20 residents and be based in W Baltimore. Will have intensive case management, tutoring assistance. 

 

Lisa–what connections do you have with employers? Bringing that function in house, have a job placement coordinator–very open to new partnerships for job placement, open to both union and non-union employment opportunities–have apprenticeship sponsors in place

 

Have to be a Baltimore City resident, 18 years or older, high school diploma or GED or in the process/willing to get a diploma or GED, pass a math or reading assessment. No issues with involvement with criminal justice system.

 

Humanium

Administrative Assistant training at the UMB CEC starting in the fall. Looking for people 18-40 who are living on the west side, but can also live in the City. Actively recruitment–recruitment will end September 5th, before the start September 12th

 

B&O Railroad

B&O has Restore Baltimore–paid apprenticeship program 5-6 people learning a variety of restoration or preservation. Will begin recruiting in August. Kris Hoellen or Joanne Woolley at the B&O are the best contacts. 

 

UMMC

Partnering with the Maryland Legal Aid to provide free legal assistance to community members at the mid-town campus–need to register in advance. Tracey Cunningham is the main point of contact

 

Jumpstart Your Healthcare Career Training for CNA/GNA

 

Bon Secours

Currently enrolling for two programs–Clean and Green

 

Bon Secours will be partnering with Jumpstart–will be providing transportation to the east side (construction training), and then will be on the west side (Factory building on Calhoun)

UMB/SWP

Standing Workforce Wednesday program–walk in hours 2-5 every Wednesday to provide job seekers with support and case management services. Also have a community referral program–will be relaunched soon with a new name West Baltimore job connection 

 

3 separate computer classes at the UMB Community Engagement Center

 

There is a grocery store opening in the fall in the Poppleton area. Will be partnering to do three information sessions in August, and can send dates in the chat. Virtual August 17th, in-person August 20th, Tuesday evening August 23rd (in person). Will be hiring 40 positions–lowest pay will be $15/hr

 

Sewn Trades
