7:25-7:40pm: Committee Updates
- Commercial
- Education- Still working on getting more young people engaged in the committee’s work
- Historic Preservation- Scott wants a resolution on letter for support of La Cite/subsequent La Cite letters issue, was expected to resolve this at 4/29 meeting, so on 4/30 he attached the letters again- May 3rd Scott asked if the vote was null- Richard never responded, and now we haven’t taken action on the letters- issue was referred to the Governance Committee for resolution.
- Housing- Welcomes our guests from Enterprise
- Public Safety- JR, no committee update but very upset about the way this meeting is handled regarding the letters and we need to move on
- Vibrant Streets- Charrette was held in early May and will share the feedback at the June meeting for W Baltimore Street
- Workforce- 1st Thursday at 7pm, working on a workforce resource guide for the community and will have a hard copy; advocacy training in the works for future meetings
7:40-8:15pm: President’s Remarks
- Monthly Community Meetings: Pigtown – Tuesday, June 8 @7pm
- Guest Presentations:
- Michael Dorsey – “Grow Home” Youth Engagement Opportunity- Joining forces with Carroll Park on job opportunities and workforce development; working with a horticulture expert (Clayton Williams) on a cut flower program involving young people- beginning next week- For questions, contact Grow Home, mdorse11@gmail.com, 410-491-0852
- When they will be for sale, Michael and Grow Home will have a website on how to buy
- Paulette and Jose want to use the money they won last year on the cleanup to purchase flowers for their neighbors- SWP still owes them their cash reward haha (get them paid so Michael can sell them flowers)
- Dotie Page wants flowers if someone can give her the info on how to buy; Sonia will purchase and Bill Marker; Roger will help “in- kind” in any way

- Listening Campaign Update & Fundraising Update – Lou Packett
- Lou has asked the anchor institutions for funding for the listening campaign; working with SWCOS from UMB School of Social Work
- Lou needs volunteers to help with fundraising; working with Purpose Built Communities, Enterprise Community Partners, etc.
- Roger offered to help to Lou
- Lou also offered “the Highway to Nowhere” will be picking up steam and the Franklin Square/Poppleton will need help- Nate offered to help

- Solutions, Capital, Communities are their 3 divisions- they’d like to work with SWP around our goals in the vision plan
- Market Rate Senior Housing would be an interest, Bill Marker
- Heather suggested the community school coordinators would have a lot of input for Enterprise based on families they work with

8:15-8:30pm: Executive Director Report
- American Rescue Plan Act- Letter will be sent to the City prioritizing projects important to the SWP
- Scott asked if “new parks” should be included and Tony suggested yes, but we need to be very specific in our ask
- New Grants- Street Lighting 35k; Lead Abatement Program $35k from the City; BRNI $100k; $250k
- Motion made to engage and pay the consultant for the Lord Baltimore Theater Scott K made the motion to approve; Jane Shaab seconded the motion, no discussion- motion approved unanimously
- June 1st the SWP office will be open to the public
8:30-8:45pm: Open Forum
- Kris Hoellen, Farmer’s Market Thursdays 4-7pm has begun; Food Truck Festival coming up end of May; June 19th Community Day—competition among local artists to design murals (free and reduced pricing); Last Weekend of Thomas is 5/21 tickets still available
- Lou Packett- UMBC will be starting a chess club at all SWP schools, the club will teach volunteer mentors so that community members can learn to teach young people in the neighborhood- especially women! Contact Lou Packett to get involved
- George Kleb, fliers forthcoming regarding Nutrition Education workshops; Success and Saving with Kaiser, May 26th
- Sonia Eaddy- Want to have a meeting to resolve the issue of Board leadership in Poppleton; Dotie and Sonia both attend the Board meetings (as non-voting) until the leadership is resolved
- Richard summarized that on March 18th Election was held and word was given on 3/20 that there was new leadership, 4/24 certified copy of the new leadership was sent to SWP; discussion was has between Dotie, Sonia, and Richard. No real resolution.
- Motion to adjourn regular Board meeting and move to Executive Session by Scott K and seconded by Jose & Laura Dykes

- Executive Session was held; Donnell made the motion to adjourn and it was seconded by Chuck. Executive Session adjourned at 10:21pm
