New DOT Planner

BGE project with the roundabout in Union Square will be done in early April.

Carey St traffic calming design phase is done, a community meeting will be scheduled. It is traffic calming at the Carey St bridge.

Diana asked about the historic signs (blue and green square signs)–does Bakari know anything about them? Who made them? Bakari doesn’t but can find out. People she’s been talking to about repairing signs would like to remove them to fix them up and then re-install them–is that something that can be done? Bakari will check and see.

Laura has seen new signs around the City–will email Bakari pictures.

Scott asked about getting four way stop signs all the way up Calhoun. There is a huge backlog with pedestrian improvements–will see what they can do in terms of prioritizing submitted projects–pathways going into Franklin Square from the south that will probably get priority in terms of implementing projects. Email Bakari with issue intersections

Committee discussed the feasibility of raised intersections

Donnell–would it be reasonable to submit a master list of committee requests? How can we press this forward so we can get some safer intersections. Would be helpful to have a master list of priority projects for intersections.

April VIbrant Streets Meeting will focus on identifying target intersections for traffic calming improvements.

Bakari and Howard discussed possible solutions for a problem curb/intersection in Hollins Market

Projects

Elizabeth reviewed the BRNI/CORE grant program as well as the 20,000 designated for the Committee

Laura: suggested using the 20,000 for the signs Diana’s been working on, a lawn mower and cleaning supplies for all the neighborhoods to share, and public art throughout the neighborhoods that were tied together by a common theme such as art on transformer boxes. Laura would like to do the signs first and then see if there is other funding available. Scott would like to do a project that was leveraged the best.

Scott would like to do community-led sidewalk repair.

Bill Marker: space art project, helmets etc for distribution (not eligible)

David would like to see a funded complete streets plan for the area (not eligible), bike hangers that takes up the space of a car on a block–allows for six bikes to be stored on a block.

Diana has talked to Elemental Metalwork and the repair shop at the B&O–they would want to remove the old signs and fix them up in the shop. Kim Lane has said that the new sign standards for the city are to put signs on posts that are already there. Diana will share the locations of the signs with Meghan.

Ms Paulette would like to fund

Scott would like to see the Committee apply for neighborhood grants funding again. Laura would like us to apply for past projects and raise the amount of the neighborhood grants award.
