July 2018 Workforce Roundtable Minutes

Workforce Committee didn’t meet in July yet because of the holiday. Next meeting will be Monday the 23rd at 7pm at 1138 Hollins St. We will be discussing the 626 Community Resource Fair in October, as well as advocacy with employers.
UMB is having another Apply Here Apply Now event for Housekeeping. Community members can come to the UMB CEC and apply for jobs at the University. Application process is online and communication is via email—computer skills are needed.
Train2 Work open house with YoBaltimore will be in September.
On Ramp to Careers at UMMC
UMMC created an ‘on ramp to careers  at the hospital. It is a Safety Observation Companion position intended to provide flexibility. The position watches people who are at risk and need observation while they are in the hospital. Can sign up for as many shifts as needed to get to a regular 40 hour work week, and there is a minimum of hours needed to work. Looking for people who want to work at the hospital but lack hospital experience. Intended to transition successful employees to other positions after six months. Position has low requirements, looking for good communicators, do need CPR Certification to start (Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association).

CFUF is starting another STRIVE class, the next STRIVE will be August 10th, STRIVE Future Leaders the 27th, in need for volunteers for mock interviews, August 1st 9:30am—finished around 1pm.
Public Defenders Office will be doing Expungements and other legal services on July 25th at the American Brewery Building (N. Gay St). 9am-1pm 1701 N. Gay St
Reciprcare will be at the ECC July 27th from 10am to 2pm, participants have to be registered with ECC before, hiring CAN/GNA, LPN, Home Health Aide
Express Employment Professionals July 31st hiring for warehouse workers, janitors, other upcoming hiring fairs.
Rye St Tavern is hiring for restaurant workers through the ECC
