  1. Franklin Square Principal Search–very fast process, selected a principal in a week to select a new principal. Agreed at the last meeting to support the Franklin Square community if they wanted to protest the process–haven’t done that yet. Issue isn’t with the new principal, who people seem to like but with the speed of the process.
  2. Community schools updates–Jeff Johnson will be transitioning to work for Bon Secours Community Works as the community schools program manager–his work coordinating the roundtable etc will continue.
  3. Packett Fund–reviewed awards from last year, still funding available, please reach out to schools who haven’t applied to encourage them to apply
  4. Will continue to look for funding for the youth internship program. UMB is looking to hire young people to work 3-5 at UMB potentially 5 days a week, looking to do a mural project.
  5. Bringing in parent voice–what other organizations would the Committee like to present? Discussed tutoring program at the CEC that is having trouble attracting young people to attend, SAFE, potentially the United Way, UMB related programs, Pastor White  at Allen AME, Southwest Sports and Fitness Alliance/Church of the Nativity, potentially Carter Memorial
    1. Committee discussed strategies for recruitment for the tutoring program–if interested in recruiting new students could attend back to school events at area schools and be present at various drop off and pick ups
  6. UMB Office of Community Engagement will be doing a community needs assessment this fall–will be taking input from the Education Committee, will be sending draft questions to the Committee for feedback. UMB will also be recruiting and training teams of UMB students to do doorknocking in  the area
  7. School Family Council’s–Abigail has a vision that there would be someone from the committee on every school family council in the SWP area. Camille does this as part of her job–tries to go to as many as possible.
  8. Announcements–August 23rd 4-7pm back to school event in Poppleton
