  • Councilwoman Porter – Update on Mt. Clare Shopping Center Grocery Store
    • We have a grocery store!!!
    • 4 grocers were engage and three fell through
    • Jumbo Fresh family owned from Long Island New York
    • First store in Baltimore 
    • No timeline for start of construction
    • Leased is signed
    • Full service grocery store w/ pharmacy
    • Flagship store in Bladensburg(?) MD
    • estimated timeframe to opening is 6-9 months
    • CE: how long is the lease
      • CWP: i think 5 years but I will confirm
    • Owners are Latinx and will be offering latinx products
    • CWP would like to convene an opportunity for the community to request the types of products we want to see in the store
    • SK: are there plans for the other retail spaces?
      • CWP: I am in talks with other businesses that I can’t disclose at this time but we are reimagining the shopping center
    • Timothy M: how long have they been in business
      • CWP been in business for some time in Long Island, will get more information to us
    • Nicole: What kind of concessions and safeguards is the City putting into place to ensure the business is succesful
      • CWP: raised 1.6 million as an incentive, have a public safety model that includes cameras inside and out, using a food pantry model along with the grocery for those who need it to help reduce theft
