Sites of Interest

Union Square Park

Union Square Park is one of the West Baltimore parks that anchor neighborhoods built in the 19th century around public green spaces. The host to summer concerts in the park, the Union Square Christmas Tree lighting, and other events, Union Square Park is the center of the neighborhood and boasts a fountain, benches, landscaped grounds, and a bandstand.

Bloom Your Block

Every spring flowers become competition in Union Square! Residents across the neighborhood decorate their stoops, sidewalks, and windowsills with flowers, plants, and all sorts of outdoor adornment before the final day of judging and celebration.

Union Square Cookie Tour

For thirty years the beautifully restored homes in Historic Union Square have been opened during the holiday season to visitors and neighbors alike who tour the homes, admire decorations and décor, and eat delicious cookies.

Schools

Steuart Hill Academic Academy is located on the west side of Franklin Square. It served students in grades pre-K through 5 who were primarily from the Union Square and Mount Clare communities. Sadly, the Board of Education voted to close this school at the end of the school year in 2023. The Baltimore City Department of Planning is still considering future usage of the building or repurposing of the property.
