HABC Presentation – POE Homes Redevelopment Mary Claire Davis
- The POE homes redevelopment has 2 goals:
- 1 for 1 replacement of all the 288 units currently at POE Homes
- Create a mixed income neighborhood
- They have been scheduling meetings like this update with the surrounding community and have attended some of the meetings already including:
- Hollins Roundhouse
- Poppleton Now
- Barre Circle
- Townes of the Terraces
- POE Residents (Tenant Council)
- The current design for the Choice Neighborhood has a reduced footprint making the project more dense than the community has requested and the current zoning allows.
- They had to redesign due to an uncooperative developer. They have been unsuccessful in negotiating with the master developer of Center West to get additional land.
- This means that the design is more dense than the neighborhood has requested because they need additional units in order to qualify for the federal government’s requirements and this will require a zoning change (from R8 to R9).
- Which also means they are not ready to apply this year and will need to wait till next year to apply for funds.
- HABC – (Kevin Gallaher) updated on some of the action activities from the current Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant:
- Splash pad
- Aging in place home improvements
- Hollins Market
- BDC provided funds for a food market – opening this fall
- Lighting project UMB
