Police Updates
Been a decrease in larcenies, increase in assaults in the Southern District.
Committee has noticed an increase in crimes in broad daylight–be real vigilant, make sure that doors are secured to homes and vehicles BPD are aggressively patrolling areas
Committee asked about a recent shooting/car chase around Hollins Market which has been negatively impacted businesses around the market. Ofc. Torres mentioned the program at the police operate that allows them to have access to private cameras when there are incidents. The Committee discussed their feelings of safety in various areas of the community.
Committee asked about high police presence recently at a particular location–Ofc Torres will check on that and get back with the answer.
Ofc Torres suggested that activity in the area (positive)–clean ups etc, like the recent clean ups they are coordinating with DPW will result in increased safety.
Committee discussed increase in city’s removal of abandoned vehicles post coivd.
Approval of Requests for Proposals Safety Grant
Committee approved the RFPs, which will be released this week.
Public Safety Roundtable
JR thanked the organizers of the community clean up in Hollins Roundhouse. Has seen a lot of folks come out to fill the dumpster.
Funding has been shifted in the Transform Poe Action activities–$200,000 for outdoor lighting along S Poppleton St from James McHenry up to W Baltimore St and then over to Schroeder. Committee asked how the decisions had been made, Kevin will share details with the Committee.
