This summer the George Washington Elementary School Library will be open for SummerREADS
All area children are invited to drop in anytime between 9am and 1pm Monday-Thursday for fun activities and learning between July 10 and August 17th.
Free breakfast is served at 8:30am and free lunch at 12pm.
George Washington is located at 800 Scott St.

This program takes place in the beautifully renovated Weinberg library at George Washington. The SummerREADS program is drop in style, meaning children and families can drop in and drop off children whenever their schedule allows over the duration! SummerREADS programs are geared to students in grades K-3 and their families, although the library will be open to students in 4th or 5th grade as well. Daily on-site registration will be available for families who wish to drop their children off as space allows.

Young Audiences Artist Max Bent students learn the fundamental techniques of the vocal art form called beatboxing. Students learn to make drum sounds, sound effects, and emulate various instruments, bringing all of these pieces together into a beatbox performance!
Young Audiences Artist Cynthia Chavez (Ms. CC) of Baltimore Dance Crews Project (BDCP) believes that dance allows students to elevate expectations of themselves to become successful young community members. Students learn fundamental movements of Hip Hop dance through a choreographed routine in this dance workshop. Hip Hop dance is a powerful tool that can be used to foster positive, healthy relationships between students, and reinforce literacy concepts.
FutureMakers Pop Up Makerspace transforms libraries into future fabrication labs. Bending the boundaries of art and technology, young makers activate a mobile makerspace stocked with traditional and cutting edge tools so students can dream, design and build big. Led by a team of seasoned, STEAM-driven maker-educators, FutureMakers believes kids need tools, not just toys.
Young Audiences Artist Renee Georges was one of the last Raelettes to “hit the road” with Ray Charles and His Orchestra in a singing career that has taken her all over the world. Renée is a vocalist and children’s songwriter with a passion for kids and Jazz. Ms. Renee will provide quality educational music for children that not only engages them, but nurtures their cognitive development.
National Aquarium on Wheels is proud to present this year’s student play, “Justice for the Chesapeake Bay.” Learn about our local ecosystem through a performance, an animal encounter, and interactive games and activities.
Maryland SPCA’s Reading Program will benefit children and the pets waiting to be adopted. The SCPA will bring a friendly dog to the library to help reinforce to children that pets should be loved and treated kindly while they continue to strengthen their literacy skills as read to the dogs.
Art With a Heart’s mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. Art with a Heart will bring an interactive visual arts class in the library. Instructors will incorporate a book into the visual art project, strengthening literacy schools through art making.
Blue Water Baltimore will explore how clean rivers and streams are relevant to urban life and how our actions are connected to the health of our waterways. Blue Water will explore these connections through storytelling and a variety of games.
The Drawing Zoo and teaching artist Brittany Roger will explore different elements of visual art correlated to a different LIVE visiting animal. To appreciate the animal and learn how it fits with a particular environment, students will be able to closely observe and touch the animal and record their observation through art.
