SWP Workforce Grants Update and Announcement

The SWP received over 1 million dollars worth of applications, really demonstrates the depth and breadth of programs available in the area. The programs funded were the University of Maryland Medical Center for a training program that will connect area residents with positions at the hospital as well as with training courses around legal assistance, financial counseling etc, 10:12 Sports for resources to connect men in their program with workforce development services and resources, and the Safe Alternative Foundation for Education for the construction of their training and community center which will support training in the construction fields.

 

Unite Us Update

Have had an amazing response from the community in terms of registration, have 90 organizations registered and ready to go live October 20th.

 

Entry on to the platform is free of charge for agencies and organizations who are interested due to the support of the Kaiser Permanente Foundation. If folks register by Monday they should be ready for launch. https://www.cognitoforms.com/UniteUs/PartnerRegistrationForm. Programs can continue to register after launch.

 

Announcements

Joanne–has there been an asset and skills inventory of community members who live in the Southwest Partnership? Also what people want and see in the community? Is a workforce committee member who is interested in this. Lisa would be interested in learning more about it, would like to hear from the people in Chicago who did it.

UMMC is now recruiting IT roles from the community and recently hired an NPower graduate.

 

ABC holds an regular Community of Practice meeting–have a session coming up next week on October 22nd led by Dayvon Love of Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle. Community of Practice focuses on ending white supremacy in workforce development practice.
