II. Welcome and Introductions
Khandra opened the meeting and all the guests introduced themselves.
III. Presentation by Archdiocese of Baltimore for new K-8 School
Jim Sellinger – Chancellor of Education for the Archdiocese
Presented new school plan.
They did a master plan starting 18 months ago. They needed a new catholic school on
the west side of Baltimore. They can help with the revitalization and offer a catholic
education.
Very early in the planning stages 18.5 million dollars already raised 15.7
Located between Lexington and Saratoga at Martin Luther King.
2 years out construction schedule at best.
The school will be located adjacent to MLK Blvd between Lexington and Saratoga. It will
Pre-K through 8 th grade and house 520 students. 2-300 students will come from existing
schools. Tuition assistance is available.
IV. Presentation by new Police Chief of UMB
Chief Alice Carey. She is very interested in being a strong partner with the Community.
We briefly discussed:
Extending Patrols
PAL Center
Be a model program
She will be attending the Public Safety Committee to discuss further these and other
ideas.
V. Approval of Minutes
The Board reviewed the July 2018 minutes and offered corrections:
Section VI: Housing: [add]…to explain a new City Council Bill.
Dan R motioned to approve, Nancy second, all approved. The motion passed.
VI. Semi-Annual Meeting
Curtis reviewed the attached plan. Discussed giving away some of the computers.
VII. Committee Reports
● Education:
1. Passed out a flier for next event – 9/15/18 at UMB Biopark
2. They had an exciting meeting with the Police Department
3. Motion: To apply to the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership for funds to
educate the community about community schools. George 2 nd
● $25K for a series of events

1. Nothing New.
● Housing:
1. Baltimore City Councilman Bill Henry came and made a nice presentation
of bill #180185 Licensing rental property.
2. Tax Sale confusion continues
● Workforce Development:
1. The next 626 event will be held at Franklin Square Elementary Middle
School on October, 13
2. Discussed the report from the Baltimore Integration Project
● Vibrant Streets:
1. 10 days from the deadline to submit for the Small Neighborhood grants.
2. The B&O should let us cross the tracks – We may need to revisit this.
● Public Safety:
1. Alley Gating – the paperwork needs to be resubmitted to the City.
2. We are working closely with the police
● Preservation:
1. At the meeting we covered project updates, CHAP updates, and
Baltimore Street
2. Motion Scott: Permission from the Board for the Preservation Committee
(and the Commercial Committee) to submit letters of support for the
developer of the project at 1100 Wicomico, for the purpose of the
developer applying for historic tax credits now and new market tax credits
in the future. Chuck 2 nd – All in favor the motion passes.
