This a TEMPORARY POSITION, created for the specific purpose of organizing to address targeted populations for the 2020 Census in hard-to-count communities. The Southwest Partnership Census Organizer will for 180 days between January 2020 until June 2020, under the supervision of our Census Project Manager. The Organizer will be trained on 2020 Census content and material to share with local organizations and our neighborhood associations to recruit leaders from the community and anchor institutions to volunteer. Each Organizer will be responsible for recruiting volunteers and administering several workshops and events in collaboration with our community partners to meet our targeted outcomes.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Attend monthly meetings and report events and outcomes to Project Manager for SWP Baltimore City sub-committee report
- Organize 3 workshops to engage the community and recruit leaders to volunteer
- Organize 2 events to engage the community
- Recruit 10 volunteers (over a 3 month period)
- Disseminate marketing collateral to volunteers and lead canvassing groups
- Train volunteers how best to share information about the 2020 Census
- Table at community centers and schools
Skill Sets Needed
The Census Organizer position requires a detail-oriented individual who is comfortable walking the streets of the seven neighborhoods and interacting regularly with all members of the community, as well as representing the SWP at formal functions. The individual must believe that it is possible for all of the SWP neighborhoods to become quality places for a diverse population to live, work, play, shop and pray. More specifically, the successful candidate for this position should be proficient in:
- Technical writing
- Communication (oral and written)
- Volunteer Management
- Community Organizing and Outreach
- GSuite (Google), Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word documents, as well as other digital applications
- Documentation and paper organizing
- Teamwork
- Knowledge of and comfortability working in urban environments and collaborating with community partners to complete outreach to the families and individuals in our hart-to-count neighborhoods
Preference will be given to residents of the Southwest Partnership neighborhoods.
Pay is based on the contract agreement. This position does not pay an hourly wage but will offer a biweekly stipend for work completed.
Each organizer will be paid 16$/hour for a minimum of 200 hours of work. We expect each organizer will receive a total stipend of $3,200. base The contract will require a minimum of 10 hours per week from the Organizer, including but not limited to weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
