Awesome neighborhoods are safe neighborhoods: for everyone who lives and visits. The Southwest Partnership Public Safety Committee works with community members, visitors, businesses, anchor institutions, and the police department to build the infrastructure, relationships, and programs needed to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
In 2016, the Committee’s goals are to increase lighting and cameras across the neighborhoods, begin gating alleys to make them safer and more usable for residents, and to build relationships between the police and the community.
In order to meet this goal we’ve been working on a number of projects including:
- Handing out free energy efficient light bulbs to areas residents and asking them to keep them on
- Identifying sites for cameras and working with residents and business owners to install them
- Developing an alley-gating project along W Baltimore St and its bordering streets
The Public Safety Committee meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7pm at 1138 Hollins St (2nd Floor).
JR Lee, a resident of Hollins Roundhouse and the President of the SoWeBo Merchants Association is the Chair of the Committee.
